Design Summary:
Challenge: Design a game that appeals to an audience by evoking human's universal desires of exploration and experimentation.

Player Skills:

1. Puzzle-Solving | Mental Skill
Our puzzle-solving drew inspiration from The Witness and Find Waldo books. We wanted players to have to figure out goals and solutions with minimal guidance using only observation and experimentation.

Game Pillars:

1. There must be a unique mechanic that adds an extra layer of challenge to puzzle-solving.
The time-shift mechanic supplements puzzle-solving by layering visual puzzle hints and functionality within two time states.

2. Puzzles must be intuitive enough to be solved with visual hints only.
Puzzle affordance is created through hint proximity to puzzles, level design, and playtesting for data and feedback.

3. Interactions must be visually and functionally simple.
Functionally, Meridiem requires only one button for all object interactions. This encourages player experimentation while removing any sort of challenge from physical core player skills.
