Design Summary:

​

Challenge: Design an alt controller and a game designed to use it. Make the controller the core of the gameplay experience.​

​

Core Player Skills:

​

1. Puzzle-Solving

Players must decipher the correct input combination by solving on-screen visual-based puzzles.

​

2. Teamwork

Players must work together to activate the correct inputs on the controller. Since the controller is large, more than two hands are needed, thus enforcing teamwork.

​

Game Pillars:

​

1. The controller needed to feel BIG and interactable.

​

Design Solution:

Interactivity: buttons, wires, colours, shapes, magnet maze.

Size: largeness and awkward shapes adds challenge to gameplay.
 

2. The majority of gameplay action needed to happen off the screen.

 

Design Solution:

Controller: bulk of gameplay involves physically  navigating around controller to reach its inputs.
 

3. The game needed to feel as fun to watch as it was to play.

​

Design Solution:

Logic Puzzles: Audience can participate in solving on-screen symbol puzzles.

Controller: Watching players navigate around big, awkward controller is funny.

Timer: gives audience and players a sense of urgency.
